Program description

Do you want to work in criminology in the future, but you're not sure if you're ready for college coursework? The BA (Hons) Criminology with Foundation Year program at Arden University will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to confidently finish your degree and will set you up for lucrative professions in the field of criminology.

Through our criminology curriculum, you will be able to gain a theoretical understanding of victimization, behavior, the socio-legal context, and social reactions to criminal activity. In addition, you'll look at how the criminal justice system functions, how crime and victimization are portrayed in the media, how society views crime, and how social control will develop in the future. Through the prism of international criminological theories, all these aspects and more are thoroughly examined. Complementing this analysis are insights from adjacent fields such as psychology and sociology.

You will explore a wide range of criminal activity, victimization experiences, and miscarriages of justice over the course. Our program provides a thorough analysis of the current criminal justice system, ranging from in-depth investigations of violent offenders and serial killers to examining key cases like that of Zahid Mubarak, Stephen Lawrence, Sarah Everard, and Mark Duggan. This will get you ready for jobs in human rights, criminal investigation, intelligence services, or as a police or probation officer.
