Program description

Every day, emergency management experts around the world work tirelessly to protect people from natural, technological, or human-caused disasters. The need for knowledgeable and competent emergency managers, planners, and responders who contribute to safer, more resilient, and sustainable communities is growing in Canada and around the world, and CBU is the Atlantic Canadian university that focuses on the applied aspects of emergency management.

Understanding hazards, risks, and vulnerabilities, as well as how to cope with them, is central to the study of emergency management. It is concerned with everything that can be done to prevent and minimise, prepare for, respond to, and recover from many types of emergencies and disasters through the development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of strategic management procedures.

This multidisciplinary applied curriculum will train and assist students in developing a comprehensive grasp of how Emergency Management intersects with other disciplines such as communications, business, political science, and public health.

For an International student taking ten undergraduate-level courses per academic year (30 credits):

  • International differential fees: 9,045.00 CAD
  • International medical plan (student with MSI): 620.00 CAD
  • International medical plan (student without MSI): 1,283.00 CAD
  • Fees: 764.30 CAD

Textbooks and Learning Materials

You should be prepared to purchase textbooks and other learning materials for your courses. While the costs will vary depending on your program and course, it is recommended that you budget at least $150 per 3-credit course. Your instructors will provide you with a list of required textbooks/learning materials. You should not make purchases until these have been confirmed.

Requirements for applicants

  • English 12 (academic or advanced)
  • Math 12 (academic or advanced)
  • 3 additional grade 12 academic or advanced level course

English Language Requirements

  • TOEFL score of 550 (paper test), 213 (computer test), or 80 (internet test)
  • IELTS Academic (and IELTS Indicator) score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0
  • Pearson PTE (Academic) score of 59
  • Duolingo English Test score of 115
  • If you have completed at least two years in a secondary school (as recognized by CBU) or have completed at least 30 credit hours (or equivalent) at a post-secondary institution (as recognized by CBU) where English is the primary language of instruction, you are not required to submit a language score. Official documentation will be required to confirm this period of study was in English.
