Program description

A Bachelor of Health Sciences, Public Health (BHSc) degree from CBU provides a unique opportunity to improve the quality of life for those around you. With the knowledge and skills you obtain here, you will be able to make a difference in a genuine community while working with experienced faculty and using modern facilities.

CBU's public health programme, in particular, focuses on environmental health. This branch of public health is concerned with keeping people healthy in the environments where they live, work, and play. Health sciences in Cape Breton are a fertile field for discovery, with an eclectic population of people from more than 50 nationalities collaborating and learning together on an island environment. Our programme takes advantage of our region's natural resources by focusing on food safety, water and air quality, communicable disease control, and occupational health and safety. Our programme currently has three streams.

Stream One is the four-year option available to high school graduates and individuals without postsecondary education. Stream Two is a two-year accelerated program for candidates with a bachelor's degree in science or an analogous degree/diploma.Stream Three is an option available exclusively to military personnel pursuing a degree. These military personnel are required to obtain certification from the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
