Program description
Hospitality is a fundamental aspect of the Cape Breton way of life. Our Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management (BHTM) degree programme at CBU is a three-year curriculum that integrates tourism and hospitality, business education, and the option to supplement a speciality area with elective courses. This interdisciplinary approach to the programme, combined with two paid internships, prepares students for a career in this diverse field.
This programme allows students to get up up and personal with everything from event planning and management to service training and hands-on learning. Learn how minute things make every guest feel special, and how amazing moments are created on a daily basis. Here, the talents you learn have a real-world impact and influence.
It's no surprise that students from more than 40 countries come to Cape Breton Island to learn what they need to succeed in the hospitality business, with results-oriented courses that study destination marketing, international travel, and event management. For an International student taking ten undergraduate-level courses per academic year (30 credits):
- Tuition: 9,045.00 CAD
- International differential fees: 9,045.00 CAD
- International medical plan (student with MSI): 620.00 CAD
- International medical plan (student without MSI): 1,283.00 CAD

Textbooks and Learning Materials
You should be prepared to purchase textbooks and other learning materials for your courses. While the costs will vary depending on your program and course, it is recommended that you budget at least $150 per 3-credit course. Your instructors will provide you with a list of required textbooks/learning materials. You should not make purchases until these have been confirmed.
Requirements for applicants

- 3 additional grade 12 academic or advanced level courses
English Language Requirements
- TOEFL score of 550 (paper test), 213 (computer test), or 80 (internet test)
- IELTS Academic (and IELTS Indicator) score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0
- Pearson PTE (Academic) score of 59
- Duolingo English Test score of 115
- If you have completed at least two years in a secondary school (as recognized by CBU) or have completed at least 30 credit hours (or equivalent) at a post-secondary institution (as recognized by CBU) where English is the primary language of instruction, you are not required to submit a language score. Official documentation will be required to confirm this period of study was in English.
