Program description
With a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Environment, you can help shape a future we can all be proud of (BASE). The BASE programme, CBU's first truly multidisciplinary degree, makes advantage of the natural resources accessible among the stunning surroundings of Cape Breton Island. The BASE programme demonstrates a university-wide commitment to environmental and sustainability education and research, and it is complemented by Indigenous viewpoints.
The breadth of the BASE programme guarantees graduates have a diverse skill set, thanks to devoted academics and unique research possibilities. When you enrol in BASE, you are immersed in three streams at the same time: a science concentration, an arts/social science concentration, and a core set of specifically created environment-themed courses.
The themes of these courses may change each year to reflect the expertise of our world-class professors or current environmental challenges. BASE's guiding philosophy is respect for and incorporation of Indigenous knowledge. All students will be able to study Mi'kmaq Studies courses as part of their degree programme, preparing them to be active and responsible agents in the development of sustainable environmental practises.
