Program description
Music, dance, theatre, and the arts are all prevalent in Cape Breton society. At CBU, we collaborate and share the stage to interact with our community in a positive, creative way.
Applied Theatre assists you in adapting practical theatre skills to meet your objectives in non-traditional performance settings and styles. Working as an animator at a living history site, using theatre to raise consciousness about social issues, creating experiences that build or honour community, engaging youth in learning opportunities, and assisting at-risk populations in developing skills and support networks are all possibilities.
At CBU, you can study conventional theatre skills like acting, directing, and stage management, as well as applied theatre methods like improvisation and devising. Enhance your studies with work placements and classes in areas such as entrepreneurship, marketing, musicology, and cultural policy. By studying applied theatre, you can learn how to identify community needs and use theatre to meet those needs, resulting in real change in the world in which you exist. This is one-year 30-credits course.

For an International student taking ten undergraduate-level courses per academic year (30 credits):

Textbooks and Learning Materials
You should be prepared to purchase textbooks and other learning materials for your courses. While the costs will vary depending on your program and course, it is recommended that you budget at least $150 per 3-credit course. Your instructors will provide you with a list of required textbooks/learning materials. You should not make purchases until these have been confirmed.

- TOEFL score of 550 (paper test), 213 (computer test), or 80 (internet test)
- IELTS Academic (and IELTS Indicator) score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0
- Pearson PTE (Academic) score of 59
- Duolingo English Test score of 115
- English 12 (academic or advanced)
- 4 additional grade 12 academic or advanced level courses
