Program description
The culture of Cape Breton University is defined by sustainability, innovation, and community participation. The Master of Education in Sustainability, Creativity, and Innovation (MEd SCI) programme is designed for progressive thinkers and problem solvers. It provides courses that enable learners to become more empowered leaders in education for sustainability, contribute to individual, community, and global well-being, and enhance teaching skills through real-world connections and integrated learning.
Utilizing the United Nations' competences for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), the MEd SCI programme equips learners with the knowledge and abilities to create transformational learning experiences everywhere in the world. Students will be exposed to cutting-edge courses on topics such as sustainable happiness, sustainability education, and Indigenous culture and language. CBU's approachable faculty are dedicated to teaching quality through a direct learning curriculum, as well as conducting unique research to enhance sustainable scholarship. Students can complete their degrees through either an applied research project or a thesis.
The Maritime Provinces Higher Education Council has approved the MEd SCI programme for teaching licence reclassification. While a Bachelor of Education is common among teachers, it is not required for the MEd SCI programme. Those applicants who demonstrate a desire to further their education and seek professional development opportunities may be admitted.
