Program description
Our communities are the threads that connect our country. Each community plays a significant part in the growth of our civilization, from assisting in the formation of a strong economic engine to facilitating the growing of our healthy food. Although modest in size, the Cape Breton community is rich in potential. Here, you are free to explore a friendly island full of individuals who see the same potential in you that you see in them. The MBA in CED programme provides a cutting-edge curriculum that covers all business courses found in typical MBA programmes, with a focus on economic development, leadership, governance, and change management. The curriculum appeals to people who want to be leaders in the private, public, and community sectors.
There are numerous MBA programmes available all over the world. Yet, the degree at Cape Breton University is the only one in Canada that focuses on community economic development. It's for folks who want to make a difference in their communities. We teach lessons that encourage students to make a positive difference wherever they go. Since 1997, CBU's Shannon School of Management has provided an MBA in Community Economic Development.
Experiential Learning Opportunities
- Applied Research Projects (ARP)
CBU acknowledges the demand for and value of research skills in the public, community, and private sectors. CBU is one of the few institutions that mandates a research project as the final requirement for the MBA in CED degree.
The ARP is the culminating project for the MBA in CED. This project provides the opportunity to engage in experiential learning through direct involvement with a community, enterprise, government agency, or non-profit organization under the supervision of one or more research advisors.
