Program description
Political science examines politics and political behavior within society. It includes international treaties and organizations, together with the political actions that both establish and influence them. It includes civic engagement and the entities that formulate public policy at the local, state, and national tiers in the United States. It includes voting methods, political parties, and judicial institutions, analyzed across many country political systems. It involves the formulation of normative inquiries regarding the essence and objectives of political existence. Politics permeates every domain and sector of society continuously.
The curriculum of the department is divided into five subfields: American politics, political theory, comparative politics, international relations, and public policy. Coursework in the discipline's subfields is supplemented by a mandatory support option. Support options comprise a minor in an alternative department, an interdisciplinary minor, a second language support option, a methodologies support option, or a second major.
