Program description
The Master of Fine Arts program promotes excellence in creative exploration and accomplishment. For almost forty years, the Department of Art and Art History has shown its dedication to graduate education. Our visual arts program, with specializations in Drawing, Fibers, Graphic Design, Metalsmithing and Jewelry, Painting, Printmaking, and Sculpture, is the most extensive in the Rocky Mountain West and ranks among the biggest academic departments at CSU.
Students admitted to our program collaborate closely with renowned academics who supervise diverse study and experimentation in studio media. Throughout each level of the program, a student's own studio practice is enhanced by art historical study and elucidated via interaction with current discussions on art, craft, and design. Graduate students showcase their work and provide presentations at various places regionally and abroad as they advance in their careers.
Program alumni showcase their work both nationally and internationally, teach at educational institutions, and engage in specialized seminars, while remaining engaged within the arts community. Graduates serve as jurors and curators for exhibits, engage as designers, contribute to conferences and arts magazines, and collaborate with arts organizations.
