Program description
The Master of Arts in Religion (MAR) program allows you to examine the world as it is shaped by religious traditions, ideas, passions, and ways of living.
The Master of Arts in Religion stands for:
- Individuals preparing for doctoral studies
- Professionals aiming to establish subject credentials in education, administration, journalism, or librarianship
- Persons across diverse professions seeking to explore their curiosity regarding fundamental questions of meaning, values, and existence.
MAR students engage in focused study within a specific discipline or, more generally, in Theological Studies. Given that the real world is not segmented by academic disciplines, MAR students may also self-designate an interdisciplinary area that integrates courses from Drew's distinguished interdisciplinary fields.

Drew's distinctive, immersive learning experiences include professionally-mentored scientific research in RISE and DSSI, volunteer and community-based opportunities through the Center for Civic Engagement, making industry connections over seven semesters in New York City, and exploring the world through eye-opening international study abroad trips.
Drew University's two graduate schools provide ten master's and four doctorate degrees. There are several certificate programs available. All programs are built on Drew's well-known dedication to faculty-student mentoring, chances for out-of-classroom experiential learning, and fostering a strong intellectual and global community, with many programs available in hybrid or totally online formats.
