Program description
According to the National Mental Health Institute, one in two Canadians will have dealt with mental illness by the time they are 40 years old. The necessity for licensed practitioners is now more important than ever as the demand for mental health services rises.
Students will apply their knowledge in a required 14-week, 420-hour experiential work placement through a comprehensive combination of theoretical, research, and applied courses, bridging the gap between the classroom and real-world experience. Graduates will be prepared to take on jobs in community mental health that include case management, crisis counseling, mental health promotion, addiction counseling, housing and advocacy consulting, peer support, and residential youth work, thanks to their knowledge and practical abilities.
