Program description

There are many facets of life that necessitate the services of an HVAC expert. A Durham College HVAC technician can do it all, from installing a state-of-the-art high-efficiency furnace to maintaining comfortable temperatures in your workplace.

The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), the body in charge of regulating the HVACR sector, has standardized and accredited the program's basic curriculum. In this course you will learn to:

  • An Introduction to the Core Concepts
  • Systems for heating water and cooling food
  • Residential heating systems that adhere to industry standards for design
  • The laying of gas lines for use with heaters and water boilers

After completing the program, you will have the academic and practical knowledge to sit for the TSSA examinations necessary to become a Gas Technician 3 and an Oil Burner Technician 3.

Requirements for applicants

  • Matured student status (applicants who are over 19 years old and do not have a high school diploma)
  • Grade 12 English (C or U)
  • Grade 12 mathematics (C, M or U)
  • English language proficiency
    • Academic IELTS: 6.0, no band score less than 5.5
    • IBT TOEFL: 80, with minimum section scores of 20
    • PTE Academic: 53 minimum overall, no section below 49 L,W,S,R
    • CAEL: Overall scores of 60 with no section below 60
