Program description
The Power Engineering Techniques - Fourth Class program is approved by the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA) and is aimed at teaching students both the theory and practice of power production and plant management.
Students at Durham College will be able to put their theoretical knowledge to use in the real world by working with cutting-edge equipment in Durham College's registered Power Plant and electrical laboratories.
Students who finish the course successfully are eligible for a nine-month reduction in their total required steam time. Students who also finish three months of paid work experience in the field after passing two TSSA exams become eligible for the Fourth Class Operating Engineer certificate of qualification.

Requirements for applicants
- Matured student status (applicants who are over 19 years old and do not have a high school diploma)
- Grade 12 English (C or U)
- Grade 12 Mathematics (C, M or U)
- English language proficiency
- Academic IELTS: 6.0, no band score less than 5.5
- IBT TOEFL: 80, with minimum section scores of 20
- PTE Academic: 53 minimum overall, no section below 49 L,W,S,R
