Program description
Carpentry and renovation careers combine physical hands-on labour, precision, and creativity. Successful students will be able to pursue a range of exciting career pathways in custom house building, renovation, construction, and general contracting, including self-employment. With the building and renovation business expanding across Canada, work opportunities are projected to be plentiful for the foreseeable future. According to market research firm BuildForce Canada, Canada will require 44,600 new carpenters over the next ten years, with 12,000 of those needed in Ontario alone.
Graduates of this program will have a competitive advantage in the labor market because they will have a strong knowledge and understanding of structural renovations, sustainable construction theory, and energy-efficient construction techniques, as well as foundational business theories and strategies to supplement their technical training. Students can also complete a co-op or field placement program, which provides valuable real-life, hands-on work and industry experience that prepares graduates for successful jobs. Graduates will meet the Ministry of Labour's requirement for Working at Heights training.
