Program description
The Jewellery Arts curriculum gives students a firm grounding in both the technical aspects of goldsmithing and the creative abilities essential for a career in the jewellery industry. Sawing, filing, soldering, casting, forging, decorative metal processes, and more will all be covered, along with sophisticated computer modeling and design for jewelry. As a jewelery designer, you'll need to experiment with different design methods and learn about the many possible jewelry silhouettes. The ability to effectively apply the creative process is crucial. The curriculum emphasizes both the use of technology and the development of core skills in the jewelry industry.
When working with precious metals and stones, you should adhere to the highest standards of goldsmithing. The goals of the projects are twofold: 1) to improve technical and design abilities, and 2) to provide an outlet for creative expression. Each year, the graduating class of jewelry students has an exhibition to present their work. Students can take part in a wide variety of contests, as well as volunteer at and attend important industry events.
