Program description

Art and design foundation students learn practical, creative, and critical thinking abilities. This studio-based curriculum integrates analog and digital pieces into your portfolio. The portfolio aids applicants to diploma and degree-level art and design programs.

The first semester covers art history, language, observational sketching, form and space, photography, and digital design. The second semester covers advanced design process abilities, creative problem-solving, and color theory and practice.

The art and design portfolio presentation seminars will introduce you to creative professionals and their distinct portfolio-building experiences. You can also choose alternative courses to learn future-relevant skills.

Base tuition fee (for two semesters - 1 year):

  • 18,293 CAD for international students

Additional fees:

  • Application Fee - 110 CAD 
  • Incidental Fees (student ID, student association membership, etc) - 2,000 CAD 
  • Mandatory Health Insurance - 790 CAD for 1 year coverage

Requirements for applicants

Admission Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • grade 12 English (C or U)

We recommend that applicants should have taken at least one high school-level art class and have some basic experience in areas such as photography, illustration and digital image creation.

English language proficiency

  • George Brown English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program - Level 8;
  • IELTS (Academic) - 6.0, minimum 5.5 in each skill band;
  • TOEFL - 80 (online) minimum 20 in each skill band;
  • Duolingo English Test - 105;
  • MELAB - 80;
  • PTE (Academic) - 54, overall minimum, 50 in each skill band;
  • CAEL - 60 (overall);
  • Cambridge English Exams (B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency) - 169 or more (with no individual skill below 162).
