Program description
You will gain a feminist and anti-racist understanding of the political and counseling challenges surrounding gender-based violence in the Assaulted Women's and Children's Counsellor/Advocate (AWCCA) (Accelerated) diploma program. This program focuses on survivors who identify as women, children, transgender people, or non-binary people.
The longer Assaulted Women's and Children's Counsellor/Advocate curriculum lasts two years, however this shorter three-semester program covers the same ground. It will set you up for success as a change agent in the realms of civic engagement, political activism, and legal reform. Those who have been through or are currently enduring gender-based violence will be better equipped to offer anti-oppressive counseling after completing this course.
Social justice movements, inequality, injustice, and online violence are just a few of the many topics you'll learn about in this course that all have an effect on gender-based violence. Offsite, with one of our field placement partners, you will get the opportunity to practice your newly acquired counseling abilities.
Those who have already earned a bachelor's degree or equivalent and have worked or volunteered for feminist groups or programs and are interested in helping survivors of gender-based violence get support and advocacy can apply to this expedited three-semester program.
