Program description
The true cost of energy is becoming more widely recognized due to a combination of issues, including rising fuel prices, poor indoor air quality, and climate change. Designing, constructing, and maintaining environmentally friendly buildings is an urgent priority.
Program participants in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technician track will:
- Gain expertise in residential and light commercial building environmental system sizing, installation, and maintenance.
- Gain expert knowledge of HVAC/R (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration) systems, and how they work, as well as how to design, install, and maintain them.
- Learn by doing in our labs, where you can gain experience working on a variety of furnaces, air conditioners, refrigeration equipment, and other home appliances.
- Learn professional-level skills in the HVAC and gas industries, such as soldering, wiring, electric control circuitry, and troubleshooting.
- Determine the heating and cooling needs of a facility, make equipment selections, and create HVAC system drawings and specifications using CAD software.
The program adheres to the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC) engineering best practices established by the Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Institute (HRAI), the American Society of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the Canada Green Building Council.
