Program description

Within the Carpentry-Construction category, Humber offers three stackable programs, the first of which is Construction Engineering Technology. The program gives you practical experience with trade regulations, commercial construction techniques, and estimating while introducing you to the carpentry trade and commercial project management. It also offers the Building Construction Technician diploma and the Carpentry and Renovation Techniques certificate. The advanced diploma program will allow students to transfer credits from a variety of certificate and diploma programs, such as Industrial Woodworking Technician, Building Construction Technician, Carpentry and Renovation Technician, and Carpentry and Renovation Techniques.

The purpose of this curriculum is to investigate the construction sector from an engineering and managerial standpoint. You will learn about the tactics needed to design and carry out projects in the business-based sector.

You will gain knowledge about adhering to laws and regulations regarding occupational health and safety practices and procedures throughout the program. Additionally, you will learn how to make sure that work is done in accordance with ethical norms, applicable laws, bylaws, regulations, and contracts. There will be coursework on sustainable practices. There will be a focus on interpersonal, supervisory, and teamwork skills as well as leadership.

Requirements for applicants

International Academic Equivalencies:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
    • Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
    • Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U or equivalent)
    • Two Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above

or

  • Mature student status

or

  • College or university transfer status

For Indian applicants one of the following:

  • All India Senior School Certificate/Higher Secondary School Certificate
  • Year 12 State Board Exams with a minimum grade of 70 or above in required program subjects.
  • Applicants who previously completed post-secondary education require to provide backlog summary. Maximum backlog attempts accepted:
    • Bachelor’s degree 3 year: 2 backlog attempts
    • Bachelor’s degree 4 year: 4 backlog attempts
    • Master’s degree: no restriction
    • 10 + 3 Curriculum: 4 backlog attempts

To be eligible you must possess the equivalent of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and required courses as noted in the course list.

English Proficiency requirements are:

  • A minimum TOEFL Academic Level score of 550 (paper based) or 80 (internet based) or
  • an IELTS with an overall minimum score of 6.0 (with no single band score below 5.5) or
  • CAEL with an overall band score of 60 or
  • Cambridge English Test with B2 First / C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency 169 (with no single subscore below 162) or
  • Duolingo Language Test with score 105 and above+
  • International applicants may be asked to submit an ICAS or WES evaluation.
