Program description

Mechanical Engineering Technology at Humber is an advanced diploma program that gives you hands-on experience as well as the underlying basic knowledge needed to conceptualize, design, build, and operate engineering systems. Working on projects in cutting-edge laboratories and design spaces, you will solve design and production issues in engineering systems.

The curriculum covers the theory as well as the abilities needed for:

  • engineering design with cutting-edge industrial software
  • engineering systems for manufacturing
  • applications for prototyping and proof of concept
  • systems of automation
  • CNC (computer numerical control) machine tool programming
  • mastercam computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software
  • operation design and long-term viability
  • project management and engineering
  • engineering system testing and maintenance
  • energy conservation
  • robotics

The skills learned in the first two years in manufacturing and basic design are enhanced in the third year by focusing on detailed design and sophisticated manufacturing technologies. The curriculum includes a co-op option to blend work and learning and gives graduates the opportunity to apply their abilities in the industry. In the third year, students collaborate with industrial partners to create a working prototype as well as a full design and manufacturing package for industry.
