Program description

Humber's Furniture and Cabinetmaking Techniques certificate program, based at the Humber Centre for Trades and Technology, will teach you how to create simple cabinets as well as classic furniture using established trade techniques. You will learn about many types of joinery and building processes by completing a series of woodworking projects with hand tools, portable power tools, fixed machines, and computer-based technology. Throughout the curriculum, time management skills and the capacity to work to a deadline are taught and emphasized.

Graduates will be able to create shop drawings, calculate a material list, cut out and construct basic cabinetry or furniture, and apply a finish. Graduates can safely operate most typical stationary woodworking machinery, as well as low capacity CNC machines.
