Program description
Humber offers a certificate program in Web Design and Development. Plan, design, and develop websites and online apps by learning to identify issues and use best practices. You will build websites and apps from the ground up using the newest methods and tools available. Additionally, you will learn how to overcome technological difficulties by strengthening your troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. You will get the opportunity to present the solutions you have developed on an engaging portfolio website at the conclusion of the program.
Students are guided through the full process of developing websites and online apps by our innovative project-based approach. Each course is taught with an emphasis on adhering to recognized industry standards, which include constructing mobile-ready, accessible, future-proof websites and apps. These standards range from building static websites using the most recent versions of industry-standard tools to programming dynamic, data-driven websites.

Requirements for applicants
International Academic Equivalencies:
To be eligible for admission, applicants are required to submit a letter of intent which summarizes their interest in the program and their related knowledge/experience, including the following elements:
- Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for web design and current technologies
- Basic knowledge of hand-coded HTML and/or evidence of prior experience using programming languages such as PHP, Java and JavaScript
- Experience or education in a related background (i.e., digital media design, computer programming, and/or graphic design would be an asset)
- Familiarity with the Command Line Interface; frameworks and libraries such as React and Bootstrap; and version control using GIT would be an asset
The letter of intent should be between 450 to 500 words and include link(s) to 1 to 2 samples of related work with a brief explanation of programming language and software used.
English Proficiency requirements are:
- A minimum TOEFL Academic Level score of 550 (paper based) or 80 (internet based) or
- an IELTS with an overall minimum score of 6.0 (with no single band score below 5.5) or
- CAEL with an overall band score of 60 or
- Cambridge English Test with B2 First / C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency 169 (with no single subscore below 162) or
- Duolingo Language Test with score 105 and above+
- International applicants may be asked to submit an ICAS or WES evaluation.
