Program description

This curriculum prepares students for the rigors of senior management while also allowing them to specialize in a combination of two subjects of study: hotel and tourism. The curriculum emphasizes on organizations' strategic business development, and the Dissertation permits students to self-study and specialize further. This is for students who want to pursue a managerial career in the sector and want to be in the best position to advance quickly. 

After each semester of studies, students can participate in a 22-week internship placement. A student must have completed a total of 12 months of placements to finish the BA program.

1st year

Diploma in Business, Hotel and Tourism Management + paid internship

  • Study Skills at University Level - 10 credits
  • Introduction to Business and Services Management - 20 credits
  • Introduction to Marketing - 10 credits
  • Hospitality Business Operations - 30 credits
  • Principles of Entrepreneurship - 10 credits
  • Business Accounting - 20 credits
  • The Tourism Business - 10 credits
  • Foundations of Economics - 10 credits

2nd year

Higher Diploma in International Hotel and Tourism Management + paid internship

Core units:

  • Personal & Professional Development: 10 credits
  • Enterprise Development Project: 20 credits
  • Finance & Revenue Management:  20 credits
  • Marketing & Consumer Behaviour: 20 credits
  • Managing People and Organisations: 20 credits

3d year

Bachelor of Arts with Honours in International Hotel and Tourism Management + paid internship (optional)*

Core units:

  • Continuous Professional Development: 10 credits
  • Applied Research: 10 credits
  • Global Marketing Management: 20 credits
  • Digital and Social Media Management:10 credits

Pathway units:

  • Hospitality Leadership and Innovation: 20 credits
  • Sustainable Tourism Planning and Development: 20 credits
  • Pathway Dissertation: 30 credits

* Min. 12 months of internships required to graduate.

Each of the blocks above represents a 22-week semester of study. After each semester of study, students can participate in a paid internship in Switzerland or abroad. (The Swiss minimum monthly wage is 2,212 CHF) 

Requirements for applicants

  • 18 years of age
  • Motivation Letter, outlining who you are, why you would like to study at IMI in Switzerland and your plans for your future career in this industry - approx. 500 words
  • CV/Résumé in English
  • Transcripts/Certificates of your academic qualifications since High School
  • Students transferring from recognised hotel management schools must also include official transcripts or records for each semester of their previous course of study
  • IELTS 5.0 or equivalent English test results
