Program description

The program's goal is to provide students with the practical and management skills needed for entry-level roles in the hotel, events, and allied industries who have little or no prior experience in the business. The course focuses on operational and integrative management, covering topics such as food and beverage operations, front office management, hospitality company growth, and event management.

Program structure

1 semester:

  • Introduction to Professional Kitchen Techniques: 20 credits
  • Food Hygiene & Safety: 20 credits
  • Managing People and Organisations: 20 credits
  • Wine & Beverage Studies: 20 credits
  • Contemporary Professional Kitchen Techniques: 20 credits
  • Professional Pastry Techniques: 20 credits
  • Restaurant Sales Development & Merchandising: 20 credits

2 semester - paid Internship CHF 2,212 monthly (optional)

Each of the blocks above represents a 22-week semester of study. After each semester of study, students can participate in a paid internship in Switzerland or abroad. (The Swiss minimum monthly wage is 2,212 CHF) 

Requirements for applicants

  • Motivation Letter, outlining who you are, why you would like to study at IMI in Switzerland and your plans for your future career in this industry - approx. 500 words
  • CV/Résumé in English
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • IELTS 5.5 or equivalent English test results
