Program description
In NYFA’s Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (BFA) in Screenwriting, students engage in daily writing across several mediums, including Film, Television, Web Series, Podcasts, Games, and Comic Books.
Students will undertake classes focused on certain media as well as specialized abilities, including planning, character development, and electives such as comedic writing or worldbuilding. Students will acquire these mediums and skills via practical projects, culminating in a substantial portfolio of scripts that will demonstrate their identity and capabilities as writers to the industry.
The faculty of the Screenwriting Department comprises active authors with extensive experience and a comprehensive understanding of the business, together with practical insights from current developments. Under the tutelage of these instructors, students participate in the whole screenplay process from inception to completion, honing abilities in planning, writing, revising, pitching, criticism, and cooperation.
Program structure
The curriculum of NYFA's BFA in Screenwriting program includes:
- Collaborative and entertaining seminars teach students how to create unique screenplays for a variety of media, including feature films, television, short films, podcasts, web series, comic books, games, unscripted stories (reality or documentaries), and plays
- Courses that help students improve their writing abilities in all aspects of their job and media. These courses cover Elements of Screenwriting, Story Generation, Scene Study, Genre Studies, as well as electives such as Comedy Writing, Building, and Researching Your World
- Business courses that educate students about the entertainment business and the function of writers within it. These courses educate students for their future employment and provide opportunities for internships to help them develop skills and network
