Program description
The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) - Photography program offers photographers a creative, stimulating environment in which to develop, challenge, and master their skills and abilities. By combining lectures and critiques with intensive study, students get a thorough grasp and respect for still photography, its history, and photographic theories, as well as the ability to blend knowledge and creativity with practical experience.
Throughout their studies at NYFA, students interact with a broad international student population and a core faculty of working professionals. Instructors assist students stay up with technology and industry developments by providing demanding, practical coursework that pushes them to succeed in all areas necessary for advancement in an ever-changing art form.
Program structure
The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) - Photography curriculum includes:
- Basic and advanced classes in Lighting, Imaging, Printing, Business, Marketing, Theory, History, and Art Practice: classes emphasize critical theory, history, and technical skills and address current challenges
- Guidance from skilled teachers and staff in photography who are actively engaged in commercial or high art photography

New York Film Academy, known as NYFA, was founded in 1992 by Jerry Sherlock, the executive producer of The Hunt for Red October (1990), as a substitute for conventional university-affiliated film schools.
