Program description
Through this adaptable degree, you can explore and experiment with the music you're passionate about. We discuss everything related to music, from theory to technology to practice. You'll look into everything from cinema music to classical to pop.

After the first year, you can opt to specialize or mix & match courses. You'll become a part of a vibrant music scene. Numerous bands and student-run organizations in Oxford contribute to the city's thriving musical scene. You'll have a job in the music business. Through our industry connections, you gain professional experience through a placement in year two and live projects for actual clients. The international field trip looks at international music production.
This course gives you the knowledge and abilities you need to continue studying music, regardless of your musical preferences and training. Our graduates are successful in a variety of professions and higher education, including acting, composing, performing, and teaching.
Program structure
Year 1
The first year is now wholly required and covers a wide range of music from classical to film to popular music. It also introduces students to composition, musicology, recording, music theory, and performance. You will learn about modern approaches to composition, sound arts, field recording, phonography, listening, sound studies, songwriting, and media composition in Listening, Recording, Composing and Songwriting, Film and Media Composition. You learn how to think historically and critically about music, musicians, and musical institutions both past and present in Introduction to Music History, Exploring Popular Music, Critical Listening and Music Theory, and Understanding Music on Screen. You can plan and present a small music festival with Performance Portfolio and Event Production. This curriculum also includes instruction in playing an instrument.
Year 2
By selecting certain modules and pathways, you begin to establish specialties in your second year. You have the chance to interact with music and sound in a European city by taking three required courses that are required of all students: Work Experience, Music in Society, and Music International Field Trip. Additionally, you'll critically evaluate a job experience in the music business and gain knowledge of music in both historical and modern contexts.

Requirements for applicants
General Entry Requirements
- Acceptable passes in five subjects (exceptionally four subjects) at GCSE or GCE including:
- one 12-unit vocational A-level, or
- two A-levels or two 6-unit vocational A-levels, or
- one A-level or 6-unit vocational A-level plus two AS-levels, or
- two 3-unit vocational A-levels
- A National Certificate or Diploma at a good standard.
- The International Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 24 points) or the European Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 60%).
- Five subjects in SCE with two at Higher level or one at Advanced Higher level.
- Three subjects in Scottish Highers or two at Advanced Higher level.
- Any other qualifications considered by the Academic Board to be of equivalent standard.
English language requirements
- IELTS level 6.0 overall with 6.0 in reading and writing, 5.5 in listening and speaking
