Program description
Your Biomedical Science degree will prepare you for work in a hospital or research lab, but it can also open up a wide range of other job options in the biological, clinical, pharmaceutical, or medical fields.
Some of the course's components are taught by medical professionals from the nearby hospitals, but most of it is taught at the university by our own personnel. The academics are top experts in a variety of biomedical fields, such as molecular drug delivery systems.
This degree will equip you with the information needed for a variety of scientific vocations. The degree is ideal for advancing careers within the NHS, such as that of a biomedical scientist.
The course serves as a good basis for jobs in clinical, research, or medical fields as well as for pursuing scientific positions across a range of sectors.
You will receive support if you decide to study with a sandwich year in order to find a job in a bioscience firm, research lab, or IBMS-accredited hospital training lab.

Requirements for applicants
General Entry Requirements
- Acceptable passes in five subjects (exceptionally four subjects) at GCSE or GCE including:
- one 12-unit vocational A-level, or
- two A-levels or two 6-unit vocational A-levels, or
- one A-level or 6-unit vocational A-level plus two AS-levels, or
- two 3-unit vocational A-levels
- A National Certificate or Diploma at a good standard.
- The International Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 24 points) or the European Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 60%).
- Five subjects in SCE with two at Higher level or one at Advanced Higher level.
- Three subjects in Scottish Highers or two at Advanced Higher level.
- Any other qualifications considered by the Academic Board to be of equivalent standard.
- A recognised access course
Specific Entry Requirements
- A Level: Including one A Level or a comparable Level 3 qualification in a science subject (e.g. Physical Education, Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Physics, Psychology).
English language requirements
- IELTS: 6.0 overall with 6.0 in reading and writing, 5.5 in listening and speaking
