Program description
By examining who commits crime, why they do it, and what practical and political steps we can take to avoid it, criminology students at Oxford Brookes attempt to provide answers to some of society's most pressing concerns.
While many criminology courses are presented from a criminal justice perspective, Oxford Brookes takes a slightly different approach. You'll examine the topic from a far more comprehensive, multidisciplinary angle.
You'll study how society affects crime. You'll think about how class, gender, and race intersect to shape our perceptions. Most importantly, you'll discover how to dispel widespread myths that might lead to injustice in the criminal justice system.
On a placement, you could work with an NGO to support underprivileged kids in making wise decisions and abstaining from crime. Or perhaps you'll select our course on Green Criminology and pursue a career in environmental justice. Maybe you wish to work for the police.
Your skills will be ideal for a wide range of career destinations including:
- NGOs
- charities
- local authorities
- crime consultation
- community support
- security firms
- research
We'll assist you in getting there regardless of the route you choose!
