Program description

Paediatric nursing is demanding but rewarding. You'll succeed with empathy, sensitivity, and good communication. Our Children's Nursing course trains you to care for children and families in an ever-changing environment.

In Oxfordshire, you'll receive a variety of hospital and community practice experience. In the neighboring counties, there are additional placements for specialized pediatric nurses. After completing our program, you might work in a variety of pediatric nursing specialties, providing care for children and adolescents.

After graduation, students frequently work in children's health. The course is created so that students can receive meaningful theoretical and practical learning towards the conclusion. Some students get jobs in neonatal or children's critical care after completing a high dependency base placement in their final year.

Work placements

In the Children's Nursing program, clinical practice accounts for 50% of the learning. We have a great working relationship with the local healthcare providers, and we work closely with our clinical colleagues to develop and implement your learning program. The care of children and their families is provided in a variety of community and acute placement settings, where students gain experience. Excellent national and international reputations for innovation and the standard of care provided are held by placement areas. According to the shift schedule followed in the practice environment, students are expected to work both day and night shifts with their mentor. This enables the student to experience care as it is offered around-the-clock, every day of the week. This is in line with the pre-registration nursing education standards set by the NMC in 2010. You will have a named mentor from the placement as well as a link lecturer from the university supporting you while you are on placement.
