Program description

Enhancing everyday living for people with a variety of physical, mental health, and social requirements is the goal of occupational therapy (OT). Working with people of all ages to enhance their welfare and quality of life is what an occupational therapist does.
Our occupational therapy degree will give you the knowledge and abilities to work as a skilled occupational therapist in a number of social and health care settings.

Your studies will cover:

  • occupational therapy theory 
  • occupational therapy practice
  • components of the biological, behavioural, social and medical sciences

This course teaches assessing clients' living skills and jobs. This data will improve their movement. Real-world experience. You may see an occupational therapist treat patients in our clinic.

Work placements

Your course includes yearly practice placements. You'll complete three supervised assignments in a hospital or community health or social care setting. You'll treat people of various ages and needs. We offer a variety of University and placement-based support methods to help you through your program. A practice educator will support you on placement.

Requirements for applicants

General Entry Requirements

  • Acceptable passes in five subjects (exceptionally four subjects) at GCSE or GCE including:
    • one 12-unit vocational A-level, or
    • two A-levels or two 6-unit vocational A-levels, or
    • one A-level or 6-unit vocational A-level plus two AS-levels, or
    • two 3-unit vocational A-levels
  • A National Certificate or Diploma at a good standard.
  • The International Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 24 points) or the European Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 60%).
  • Five subjects in SCE with two at Higher level or one at Advanced Higher level.
  • Three subjects in Scottish Highers or two at Advanced Higher level.
  • Any other qualifications considered by the Academic Board to be of equivalent standard.

English language requirements

  • International students are required to undertake IELTS English language proficiency test, and achieve 6.5 in the IELTS, with no less than 6.5 in any component.

Specific entry requirements

  • GCSE: Grade 4 (C) in English, Maths and Science. For English and Maths, Level 2 Functional Skills are accepted as alternatives to GCSEs.
  • We strongly recommend that you seek the opportunity to observe an OT working either in hospital setting or community before applying to the University. 
  • Personal qualities and work experience are also taken into consideration if you meet the academic entry requirements.
