Program description

You can earn degrees in mechanical, automotive, robotic, and motorsport engineering with the help of our engineering foundation.

Our education blends technical know-how with imagination and creativity. Before you enter the workforce, we help you advance your technological expertise.

You will learn:

  • the mathematical and scientific principles in engineering and technology
  • basic principles in post-GCSE mathematics
  • engineering
  • engineering applications

Additionally, you will have access to industry-standard workshops, labs, and computers as well as first-hand experience with actual engine components.

Students can choose the specialization they like. For instance:

  • Automotive
  • Electro-mechanical
  • Mechanical
  • Motorsport
  • Robotics

Typically, our program leads to either a BSc (Hons) in engineering or a BEng (Hons) in engineering, as well as good employment opportunities.

Year 1

  • Fundamentals and Applications of Technology (double)
  • Basic Mechanical Engineering Principles
  • Basic Electronic Engineering Principles
  • Foundation Engineering Mathematics 1 (FEM 1) - prerequisite for FEM 2
  • Foundation Engineering Mathematics 2 (FEM 2)
  • Engineering Applications

Optional Modules

  • Basic Data Analysis
  • Introductory Mathematics (alternate to FEM 1 and FEM 2) (Alternative compulsory)
  • Foundations of Computer Programming

Requirements for applicants

General Entry Requirements

  • Acceptable passes in five subjects (exceptionally four subjects) at GCSE or GCE including:
    • one 12-unit vocational A-level, or
    • two A-levels or two 6-unit vocational A-levels, or
    • one A-level or 6-unit vocational A-level plus two AS-levels, or
    • two 3-unit vocational A-levels
  • A National Certificate or Diploma at a good standard.
  • The International Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 24 points) or the European Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 60%).
  • Five subjects in SCE with two at Higher level or one at Advanced Higher level.
  • Three subjects in Scottish Highers or two at Advanced Higher level.
  • Any other qualifications considered by the Academic Board to be of equivalent standard.
  • A recognised access course.

Specific entry requirements

  • IELTS: 6.0 overall with 6.0 in reading and writing, 5.5 in listening and speaking
  • GCSE: Maths at grade 5/B
  • English Language at grade 4
