Program description

If you're interested in a career in urban planning that prioritizes sustainability, equity, and inclusion, this two-semester certificate program is for you. Creative solutions for transportation and urban projects will be imagined by integrating economic, social-cultural, political, and environmental factors.

The program's emphasis on case study analysis and review will deepen your comprehension of land development in the context of social and environmental challenges. Sustainable community development, improved urban infrastructure, and better transit options are all goals of land use planning, which you will study in this course.

Along with learning the basics of urban planning, planning policy frameworks, and the structure of planning processes, students in this program will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology such as geographical information systems (GIS).

Requirements for applicants

Academic Requirements:

  • Ontario university/college degree, college diploma, advanced diploma or equivalent with a specialization in civil or environmental fields
  • Applicants with an equivalent combination of partial postsecondary and/or three years of related work experience may be considered for admission. A relevant resume and references must be provided

English Proficiency Requirements:

If English is not your first language, show one of the following:

  • Minimum of two years full-time study in an English-speaking nation
  • Minimum one year of full-time postsecondary education in an English-speaking nation
  • Successful completion of an intense English program like the English Language Institute
  • English proficiency exam results from one of the international testing agencies. Only two-year-old tests are valid.

English language test score requirements

  • CAEL CE and CAEL online - Minimum 60
  • Cambridge English Exams (B2 First/FCE, C1 Advanced/CAE or C2 Proficiency/CPE) - Minimum 169 with no skill below 162
  • Duolingo - Minimum score 105 to 110
  • IELTS Academic - Minimum 6.0 with no skill below 5.5
  • PTE Academic - Minimum score 58
  • TOEFL iBT (including MyBest TOEFL and Home Edition) - Minimum 80 with no skill below 20
  • TOEFL Revised Paper Delivered - No skill below 20
