Program description
Students in this program receive specialized training that will allow them to work in the recreation, health, education, and/or social service delivery networks with people of varying abilities. In order to help people improve their health, functional ability, and quality of life through meaningful recreation activities, graduates will learn to conduct standardized client assessments, design and evaluate group and individualized programs, and employ a wide range of facilitative techniques.
The foundation of the program is the idea that everyone can profit from more time spent in play, recreation, and leisure. Students will gain an understanding of the therapeutic potential of recreation in promoting, maintaining, and restoring health and wellness, as well as the skills necessary to adapt recreational activities for individuals with a wide range of abilities.
To accommodate students who may already be working in the industry but wish to further their education, our program combines traditional in-person lectures with select online courses.
