Program description
Child and Youth Care practitioners are experts in enabling change in children, adolescents, and young adults who are dealing with a variety of social, emotional, and/or behavioral issues. Change, stress, loss, poverty, violence, abuse, and neglect cause a wide range of feelings and behaviors in children and teens, including confusion, rage, withdrawal, aggression, hopelessness, violence, and suicide. Many of the children and teens face many obstacles and may have multiple diagnoses.
Furthermore, an increasing proportion of these young people are in dispute with the law and/or are undergoing therapeutic intervention. Understanding the individual and the particular nature of his or her response is thus a critical first step. In this process, practitioners are a crucial resource for children, youth, and their families. They commit to understanding these children, youth, and families and engaged in therapeutic interactions with them in order to promote and assist good development.
