Program description
Graduates of this program can pursue jobs in law enforcement, border security, corrections, assisting at-risk youth, assisting vulnerable individuals in local communities, and education.
Graduates will be equipped to carry out duties and responsibilities in the prevention, management, and resolution of conflict, crises, and emergency situations in institutional and community justice contexts using different intervention strategies. Graduates learn how to deal with and support a wide range of vulnerable populations, including those struggling with addiction and mental illness.
Program delivery promotes the development of skills in self-development, professionalism, empathy, compassion, cultural competence, communication, nonverbal communication, active listening, adaptability, intuition, building rapport with individuals, problem diagnosis, problem solving, critical and creative thinking, reflective practice, teamwork, career planning, and best practices for working with and supporting individuals in conflict with the law, at risk of being in conflict with the law, and at risk of being in conflict with the law. Program delivery also promotes the growth of holistic health consciousness and knowledge.
The Community and Justice Services Program carries on the quality legacy created by the Correctional Worker Program. This school, which began in the early 1970s, was one of the first to provide career training for correctional and community justice work.
