Program description

A student who completes this program will receive two diplomas: Office Administration - Legal and Office Administration - Health Services, which will open the door to a multitude of employment options in both the commercial and public sectors. Graduate employment statistics released in the fall of 2019 ranged from 95% to 100%.

Students will learn about the following topics:

 

TECHNICAL ABILITIES:

 

  • Office 365/2019 cloud-based computer application abilities at the advanced level, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, OneNote, and others. 
  • Outlook 365 teaches students how to create professional email exchanges, create folders to keep organized, and use the Outlook calendar to make appointments and plan meetings. 
  • PCLaw, The Conveyancer, Teraview, Automated Civil Litigation (ACL), Accuro EMR, Adobe Acrobat DC Pro, and Sage 50 are among the other software products available. 
  • Students will need to reach a typing speed of 50-60 GWPM. 
  • Students learn how to exchange and edit documents in the cloud. Students learn how to book, attend, and chair virtual meetings using MS Teams collaboration software. 

SOFT ABILITIES:

  • Relationships with clients, patients, and customers are founded on effective and consistent communication, as well as the ability to uphold and maintain confidentiality. The capacity to work alone as well as jointly is highly valued. 
  • Employers prefer office administrators who are well-organized, forward-thinking, and problem solvers. Students can improve these skills by learning by doing through regular classroom exercises and participating in the student work placement program.

Requirements for applicants

Admission requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Grade 12 English at the C or U level
  • Grade 11 Math

English Proficiency requirements are:

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS)-Academic - Overall 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 (SDS requires an overall 6.0, with no band less than 6.0)
  • TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT) or Home Edition - 78
  • TOEFL Computer-based Test - 213
  • Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL. In-person or Online)* - overall 60
  • EIKEN (Test in Practical English Proficiency)* - pre 1
  • The Michigan English Test* - Overall 58 with no individual score below 56, ECCE/ECPE 650 or higher
  • Cambridge English Proficiency* - 173
  • Duolingo (Temporarily accepted)* - 105
  • Pearson Test of English -Academic (Online & In-person) - 55

*Note: Students from India are not eligible to submit the results of this test as proof of English proficiency.
