Program description

Programme Objectives

This programme seeks to provide students with the technical skills required to become top chefs and instructors, as well as the entrepreneurial know-how to start their own enterprises. The program combines culinary arts with professional managerial acumen and academic rigor, which is obtained by studying from premier culinary experts, academics, and entrepreneurs while gaining real industry knowledge and abilities. It promotes creativity and curiosity in order to build intellectual critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students are immersed in Western and Chinese culinary methods, interlaced with food science, culinary-related research, and design, all supported by a business management framework. This Programme has been included in the Government's Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors for the 2023/24 academic year to meet the industry's demand for culinary specialists.

Career Prospects

Graduates begin their careers as management trainees in hotel and catering operations, gaining culinary expertise, skills, and management experience. After getting further experience, individuals might move on to senior management positions or start their own businesses. Graduates frequently seek positions as chef de parties, chefs de cuisine, food consultants, quality assurance specialists, and culinary research and development chefs.

  • Registration fee: 5,000 HKD (will be deducted from the first instalment of tuition fees)
  • Student service fee (inclusive of student visa application fee and student insurance coverage in Hong Kong): 2,000 HKD

Requirements for applicants

About the university

The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) was founded in 2012 and is a Vocational Training Council (VTC) member institute. THEi provides over 20 professional "Applied Science-Oriented" degree programs in seven academic areas: Product and Fashion Design, Sports and International Event Management, Digital Construction and Building Services, Horticulture, Arboriculture and Landscape Management, Chinese Medicine and Food Science, Hotel Management and Culinary Arts and Technology, and Digital Technology and Innovative Business.
