Program description

To prepare students for new and developing media professions, the Digital Media Innovation (B.S.) curriculum exposes them to a wide range of digital expertise. News application developers, multimedia experience producers, social media editors, engagement managers, web designers, and data analysts are among the positions that call for advanced technological skills and a digital mindset. These roles can be found in traditional media organizations, technology companies, or media start-ups. Students in this sequence concentrate on digital strategy and experimentation related to novel media applications and storytelling approaches.

Requirements for applicants

  • Any student admitted to Texas State University with an overall GPA of at least a 2.25 and a ā€œCā€ or higher in MC 1301 will automatically be admitted to their selected major in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. If a student does not meet these requirements upon admission, they will be temporarily classified as a pre-major in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. As soon as the student meets any missing requirements, they will be admitted to their selected major in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

  • an overall competitive GPA or a competitive GPA in your last 60 hours of undergraduate course work (plus any completed graduate courses)
  • at least 90 credit hours of undergraduate course work
  • responses to specific essay questions
  • resume/CV detailing work experience, extracurricular and community activities, and honors and achievements

English language requirements

  • TOEFL iBT scores required with a 78 overall and minimum individual module scores of 19 listening, 19 reading, 19 speaking, 18 writing
  • official PTE scores required with a 52 overall
  • official IELTS (academic) scores required with a 6.5 overall and minimum individual module scores of 6.0
  • official Duolingo scores with a 110 overall
