Program description
Courses in the Electronic Media (B.S.) program are intended to educate students for professions in a wide range of media production businesses, such as cable, satellite, streaming, and sports and news broadcasting. Journalism, audio and video production, narrative, administration, and programming are the main topics of the courses, which combine practical experience with skill development. At the same time, students work in our brand-new, cutting-edge Live Oak Hall production studio and our student-run radio station, KTSW. A lot of students also get off-campus internships at reputable media companies. Professional sports teams, movie studios, and numerous radio and television stations nationwide employ our alumni.

Minimum required: 120 semester credit hours

All students in this degree program must earn a "C" or higher in each of three core courses in Mass Communication, which include:

- Fundamentals of Digital and Online Media
All students in this degree program must earn a "C" or higher in all prerequisite courses and in the following major courses:
- Media Writing
- Writing for the Electronic Media or News Writing and Reporting I
- Video Production or Multimedia Journalism or Visual Storytelling
- Television News or Visual Production Capstone or Journalism Project or Storytelling and the Border

Requirements for applicants
- Any student admitted to Texas State University with an overall GPA of at least a 2.25 and a āCā or higher in MC 1301 will automatically be admitted to their selected major in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. If a student does not meet these requirements upon admission, they will be temporarily classified as a pre-major in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. As soon as the student meets any missing requirements, they will be admitted to their selected major in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
