Program description
This program can be used to fulfill the 150-hour education requirement for the Texas Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license. The Master of Accountancy (M.Acy.) degree with a major in Accounting is intended to expand the educational experience of those preparing for a career in the public accounting profession. Students investigate the social, ethical, and environmental effects of accounting information on those who rely on it for their decision making needs.
Program structure
Thirty semester credit hours are needed for the Master of Accountancy (M.Acy.) degree with an accounting focus in auditing. To meet university criteria, students must finish a thorough exam after the program. It may be necessary for students who lack the necessary prior coursework to finish prerequisite or leveling courses.

- baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university (Non-U.S. degrees must be equivalent to a four-year U.S. Bachelor’s degree. In most cases, three-year degrees are not considered.)
- official transcripts from each institution where course credit was granted
- a competitive GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework (plus any completed graduate courses)
- Texas State accounting majors with at least an overall 3.2 GPA and a 3.4 GPA in upper-level accounting course
- responses to specific essay questions
- An essay waiver may be available for Texas State accounting undergraduate applicants who have:
- provided at least two reference forms from Texas State faculty
- earned a minimum of a 3.0 GPA or higher in upper-level accounting courses, and
- earned a minimum of 3.2 GPA or higher in the last 60 hours of undergraduate course work, and
- resume/CV detailing work experience, extracurricular and community activities, and honors and achievements
- two forms of recommendation from persons best able to assess the student’s ability to succeed in graduate school
English language requirements
- TOEFL iBT scores required with a 78 overall and minimum individual module scores of 19 listening, 19 reading, 19 speaking, 18 writing
- official PTE scores required with a 52 overall
- official IELTS (academic) scores required with a 6.5 overall and minimum individual module scores of 6.0
- official Duolingo scores with a 110 overall
