Program description
A rigorous programme that prepares students to join an organization's financial management team or to enter public practise as an auditor, tax expert, or consultant. Accountants are required to handle the financial affairs of governments, non-profits, major corporations, small businesses, and wealthy individuals.
Controller, treasury manager, chief financial officer, audit manager, budget director, taxation manager, management consultant, managing partner, CRA tax auditor, investigative and forensic accounting, information technology are typical work titles.
Public accounting and managerial accounting are the two primary areas of accounting. Public accountants are independent consultants who offer their customers audit, tax, and business advice services. Employees of management accounting firms are responsible for tasks like financial reporting, performance evaluation, budgeting for capital expenditures, revenue management, working capital management, short- and long-term borrowing, and risk management. The majority of accountants hope to one day work as an associate at their public accounting firm or as the controller, treasurer, or CFO of their company. A lot of CFOs go on to become the CEO of a business or sit on the board of directors, probably as a member of the audit committee.
Most graduates decide to work toward becoming Chartered Professional Accountants (CPAs) while completing an internship at a public accounting company or finding employment in business. If they achieve the grade prerequisite for the Accounting Major, students will be granted all waivers and will proceed straight to the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP). The six CPA core skill areas of financial accounting, strategy and governance, management accounting, audit and assurance, finance, and taxes are studied in-depth here, and students learn how to combine the information. Students complete the challenging Common Final Examination as the culmination of the five modules and test preparatory training that make up CPA PEP. Students who fulfill the 30-month job experience criteria are given the CPA designation.
