Program description
This program teaches the most up-to-date respiratory care theory and provides the active, hands-on laboratory experience necessary for success as a respiratory therapist.
Respiratory therapy is an allied health profession committed to the scientific application of technology to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, management, and care of patients with cardiopulmonary and related disorders. It is the only allied health profession with training in both critical and community care.
A vocation in respiratory therapy offers a vast array of opportunities in health care. It is a high-demand discipline, and RTs are urgently required to treat, manage, and care for patients with cardiopulmonary and other breathing disorders in Canada and abroad. Respiratory therapists have a direct impact on the lives of patients of all ages in various health care contexts.

Requirements for applicants
- Students must be admitted into, or graduates of, a minimum two-year health care diploma program.
- If you did not complete your high school or post-secondary education in Canada, you will need complete the following prior to applying for the RT Diploma:
- TOEFL, IELTS or the Language Proficiency test
- An assessment of your credentials by an international credential assessment agency.
