Program description

A Master of Education (Special Education) equips you to work in mainstream classrooms with students who have a variety of special educational needs. This course focuses on three different areas: autism, mental health, and learning. These address the challenges and issues confronting mainstream instructors in mainstream educational practise, as well as filling a critical need in professional development for teachers in the area.

The autism stream prepares you to help people with autism; the mental health stream focuses on mental wellbeing, with a concentration on anxiety, depression, and eating disorders; and the learning stream prepares you to support people with a variety of learning difficulties. Because this is not an official Australian Initial Teacher Education course, the student is not qualified to teach in Australia.
