Program description

Are you aspiring to be a journalist or want to work in publishing? The BA/BSc (Hons) Digital Media & Magazine Publishing degree offered by UCA Epsom is a special program that integrates the knowledge and abilities required for both fields.

The practical and technical skills needed for digital and print journalism are covered in this course, with a primary emphasis on editing, production, and a knowledgeable grasp of the publishing industry.

You will learn how to pitch and commission stories, employ a variety of writing and visual skills, and gain practical experience in producing a publication across print and digital media formats. You will also gain knowledge of how to manage the publishing process from idea generation to publication. An experienced group of journalists and editors from the publishing world of music, fashion, and lifestyle media will instruct you along the route.

You'll gain a thorough understanding of the business of digital media and the role of the journalist within it by working alongside students on a variety of fashion, music, and business courses. Additionally, you'll learn vital networking, self-promotion, interviewing, and communication skills.

You will gain knowledge and skills throughout the course through individual and group work in studio and industry settings, a work placement (or Professional Practice Year, if you choose that option), live project briefs, and instruction from teaching staff with a wealth of connections and knowledge.

By the time you graduate, you'll have all you need to succeed in the publishing industry, including the abilities, expertise, self-assurance, and diverse portfolio of work.

Requirements for applicants

If you do not have qualifications from the United Kingdom, we will accept equivalent qualifications from your native country for admittance into our programs.

In addition to academic credentials, some of our courses require a portfolio of previous work.

For our Bachelor's courses, we usually require that you have:

  • High school leaving certificate or equivalent.
  • A transcript showing successful completion of one year of a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university with CGPA 3.8.

Portfolio requirements

For these course, you must perform an individual piece as an audition. This piece can be up to two minutes long and can be one of the following: a brief modern text (play or screenplay); a short piece of Shakespeare; or an original work you have composed.
