Program description
Whether you're creating models for the architecture or the product industries or for VFX and prop design, being an amazing model builder is all about taking viewers on a narrative journey. Our BA (Hons) Model Making course will teach you the expertise and abilities necessary to do precisely that.
This UCA Canterbury-based course will assist you in developing into a self-assured and distinctive model-making professional by transforming your imaginative creativity into sophisticated models and increasing your depth of knowledge about sustainable and modern design. A variety of design techniques with "storytelling" at their core will be completely accessible to you. In order to realize your creative concepts, you will have access to cutting-edge fabrication and testing methods, cutting-edge 3D scanning and VR technology, as well as a variety of conventional craft-based workshops, photo studios, and print facilities. You will have the ability to create your own distinctive specialties, such as mechanized articulation or innovative materials, and you will create a very distinctive design identity and style.
You will have the chance to work with your peers in different design specialties, such as product and furniture design and interior architecture, while receiving support from a wide range of industry specialists throughout the course. You'll have the chance to interact with and present your work to seasoned practitioners through the exploration of real briefs and contexts, and after you graduate, you'll join the school's enlarged network of mentors and career counselors.
You can enroll in an Integrated International Foundation Year, which was created especially to give international students English language and creative skills before they start their first year of study.
In order to ensure that you graduate prepared for the workforce, you will gain experience working with industry through actual project opportunities, masterclasses, and optionally a professional work placement if you choose the Professional Practice Year pathway.

Year 3
You will identify and construct your own distinctive model making briefs, as well as explore challenging and aspirational responses to them, under the guidance of our seasoned industry experts and practitioners. Your final year gives you the chance to hone your distinct design and making specialties and display your design identity, which you'll do by compiling a portfolio of expertly done models, prototypes, and sophisticated visualisations.

Requirements for applicants
If you do not have qualifications from the United Kingdom, we will accept equivalent qualifications from your native country for admittance into our programs.
In addition to academic credentials, some of our courses require a portfolio of previous work.
For our Bachelor's courses, we usually require that you have:
- High school leaving certificate or equivalent.
- A transcript showing successful completion of one year of a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university with CGPA 3.8.

Portfolio requirements
For these course, you must perform an individual piece as an audition. This piece can be up to two minutes long and can be one of the following: a brief modern text (play or screenplay); a short piece of Shakespeare; or an original work you have composed.
