Program description

With a BA (Hons) in User Experience Design from UCA, you can become an authority in this rapidly expanding sector by combining your creative practice with advanced technical knowledge.

Designing interactions between people and objects requires the blending of broad expertise with research approaches, or user experience. This covers apps, wearable technologies, websites, digital goods and services, augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality.

Your comprehensive academic and theoretical knowledge of the value and potential of user experience design will be supported by this course. The core ideas and tenets of the field, including as user research, experience design, interaction design, visual design, and information architecture, will be the focus of your studies.

Along the process, you'll gain a diverse set of skills, design services and products both independently and collaboratively, create an industry-ready portfolio, and prepare for a career in a sector of business with expanding job prospects.

You can enroll in an Integrated International Foundation Year, which was created especially to give international students English language and creative skills before they start their first year of study.

You'll get experience through a professional placement—or a Professional Practice Year, if you select that pathway—and develop skills that are applicable to the workplace so that you can graduate prepared for the workforce.

Year 1

Your first year focuses on the principles of graphic design practice with a variety of workshops, lectures and live briefs. Indicative content: introduction to UX design, user research, analysis techniques, structure and navigation.

Year 2

Your second year deepens your investigation into the creative, personal and business aspects of user experience design. Indicative content: interactions, design principles, design patterns, mobile UX, workflows, prototyping and wireframing.

Year 3

In your final year, you'll focus on your career aspirations by defining a research topic, presenting your findings in the form of a viva, then prototyping your concept with a view to taking the product to market.

Fee for two semesters (1 year) is 16,950 GBP for international students

Requirements for applicants

If you do not have qualifications from the United Kingdom, we will accept equivalent qualifications from your native country for admittance into our programs.

In addition to academic credentials, some of our courses require a portfolio of previous work.

For our Bachelor's courses, we usually require that you have:

  • High school leaving certificate or equivalent.
  • A transcript showing successful completion of one year of a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university with CGPA 3.8.

Portfolio requirements

For these course, you must perform an individual piece as an audition. This piece can be up to two minutes long and can be one of the following: a brief modern text (play or screenplay); a short piece of Shakespeare; or an original work you have composed.
