Program description

On our MA Fashion Design degree at UCA, you can develop a brand identity, a complete collection, a commercial business strategy, as well as all the tools you need to market yourself internationally.

Your fashion line will change to reflect your signature style whether you concentrate on an existing collection or launch a new one from fresh. In a stimulating and encouraging setting, you'll learn about business and investigate ways to externalise your practise. You'll work in sewing and textile print workshops, course-specific fashion studios, and campus-wide resources like digital printing and photography studios while you pursue your studies. Our strong ties to the fashion industry will also be advantageous to you, giving you the chance to attend engaging guest lectures and receive individualised advice from career mentors.

The culmination of your studies will be the creation and launch of your brand, which will serve as the launchpad for your career in the fashion business.

You can choose the Integrated International Pre-Masters, a year-long preparatory programme of study to get you ready for your master's in the UK, improving your speaking and writing skills in English along with your specialty skills, research knowledge, and self-confidence.

Program structure

Term one

  • Professional Fashion Practice

You will analyse and reflect on your research to determine the fashion brand you intend to develop, whether you are beginning from scratch or using your current fashion line that you developed through your undergraduate education. You will build your professional practise in a discursive, cross-disciplinary studio setting as a member of a community of faculty and students investigating design concepts. You'll improve your CAD abilities, pinpoint your target market and rivals, and alter your collection to match your brand aesthetic as you create your brand identity.

  • Research and Critical Enquiry

You will support and strengthen your brand development via research, critical thinking, and a grasp of many cultural, social, economic, and industry settings. You will be given a variety of analytical tools and research techniques to use as you examine current and upcoming advances in design, materials, and processes. We'll look at market positioning, consumer research, and brand identity with a focus on critical analysis and self-reflection.

Term two

  • Collection Development and Consolidation

To assist and inform the creation and modification of your fashion brand, you'll put your abilities from term one to use. Your body of work must be suitable for the desired market, the target consumer, and the season, and it must amply show how your skills as a fashion designer and businessperson are developing. The design creation process requires a thorough understanding of sustainability, and you'll work with industry mentors to create a practical business strategy. You will exhibit important abilities in design practise, range planning, production, and industry collaboration by collaborating with outside manufacturers, industry experts, mentors, and your professors.

Term three

  • Final Project Resolution and Brand Launch

Following graduation, as the culmination of your education, you'll create your own business platform, complete with a marketing plan and brand e-commerce website.
