Program description
The BA Product and Furniture Design course is delivered at Chelsea College of Arts and places making at the centre of design, ensuring strong practical skills are developed alongside a critical, investigative approach to objects. Students develop a flexible approach to materials and can align with specific pathways such as social design, designer-maker, or design for production.
The curriculum emphasizes user-centred design ethnography, co-design for community issues, and experimentation with new technologies and sustainable practices like repair and biodesign. Students explore emergent technologies, including AI and VR, and engage with speculative and ecological design theories. The course fosters research, collaboration, and risk-taking, culminating in a range of creative, technical, and professional skills for careers in product design and related fields, supported by access to Chelsea's shared workshops.
